Our Story

Born from lived experience.

“Frequency did not begin with a business plan. It began with a man trying not to die.”

After decades as a film director and cinematographer, Mark Kohl faced a long and destructive relationship with alcohol. Conventional approaches helped manage behavior, but did not fully reach the pain, fear, and disconnection underneath it.

A serious plant-medicine experience in 2014 opened a different path, one grounded in meditation, breathwork, nature, physical discipline, ceremony, community, and truth. Frequency grew from that lived rebuilding into a mission of service.

Our Founder

Mark Kohl

Before Frequency, Mark spent three decades as an award-winning cinematographer and director. His practice today draws on meditation, breathwork, Kundalini, Buddhist and Stoic teaching, time in nature, and about a decade of hard-won sobriety.

He founded Frequency in 2018 and serves the community as a wisdom guide, ceremony steward, and mentor.

What began as one man’s recovery has become a congregation.

Ancient land. Living spirit.

For more than 6,000 years, this land has been home to the Chumash and Tongva peoples, the original stewards of these mountains, canyons, and waters. Frequency Church is honored to gather here with gratitude, reverence, and responsibility.

Grateful Stewards

We are guests on this land. We give thanks. We protect it. We share it.
